SHAHZAD AND RAINER

Accessibility statement

An honest statement rather than a confident one. It names what is checked, and it names what has not been checked yet.

The legal centre

Drafted, pending review. These documents are drafted and are awaiting sign off. They replace the previous legal centre, which named three of our domains and left the rest uncovered, and they replace the pages on individual sites that reproduced another organisation's policy. Until sign off is recorded here, treat them as the intended position rather than the settled one.

The standard we build to

We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2, level AA. On the sites we have rebuilt, this is checked at build time rather than audited afterwards: colour contrast, one main heading per page, heading order, text alternatives for images and keyboard reachable navigation are all verified before a page can be published, and a page that fails does not ship.

What that means in practice

  • Every page can be operated with a keyboard alone, and the focus outline is visible.
  • Every page starts with a skip link to the main content.
  • Text contrast meets or exceeds the required ratio in both light and dark appearance.
  • Nothing important is conveyed by colour alone.
  • The site respects your operating system setting for reduced motion, and for dark appearance.
  • Pages work with JavaScript unavailable. The navigation menu on small screens does not need it.

Where we are not there yet

Several of our sites are still on their previous platform and have not been through this process. We are not going to claim a standard for pages we have not checked. As each site is rebuilt it comes under the checks described above, and this page will name the ones that have.

Reporting a barrier

If you cannot use something on one of our sites, write to hello@shahzadandrainer.com. Tell us the page, what you were trying to do, and what assistive technology you use if you use one. We will acknowledge within seven days. If the fix is going to take a while, we will offer another way to get what you needed in the meantime.

Formats

If you need something we publish in another format, ask and we will provide it where we reasonably can.
